SO10 EELL ROMe Florence venice

Some stories and places are just timeless - paying visit to Rome, Florence and Venice allows to breathe and witness millenia of history and beauty, the origins of the western world as we know it today and the symbols of Italian culture and heritage across the globe.

The Eternal City

The first of the Italian cities SO10 EELL pair celebrates the glories of ancient Rome. The right sideplate represents three of its most evocative symbols through the engraving techniques of hammer-chiesel and burin.

Today, the Urbs Aeterna (Eternal City) is a living testimony of the raise and fall of one of the greatest civilizations ever existed, a destination where everyone can clearly see and touch the unmistakable mark of history at every turn.

Mos Maiorum

The spaces between the sideplates and the pins are also filled with symbols: on the right side, the eagle, representing the Icon of Jupiter, father of all gods, and protector of the state. As such it served as a symbol of the power of Rome and its empire and was used as an insignia by the army. The SPQR acronym stands for “Senatus PopulusQue Romanus”, which means the Senate and the People of Rome.

The hinge pins portray the lion on one side to symbolize the “majesty of the Roman People”, and the Medusa on the other side, the monstrous Gorgon defeated by the Classical hero Perseus, as an ancient symbol of the continuity after death
