Giovanni Pellielo

Beretta Trap Shooter

Good day everyone! I'm Giovanni Pellielo, Olympic Trap shooter since 1989. I was born in Vercelli on 11 January 1970 and by profession I am an athlete for the Fiamme Azzurre (the sports section of the Italian police force). I train at the Vercelli shooting range with a Beretta DT11 and my way of life is I desire, therefore I am.

Being asthmatic from an early age, Giovanni started shooting only at the age of 19. He also took part in ballroom dancing and in 1989 won the Junior Italian Championship in this speciality.
He started shooting on the day of his eighteenth birthday when his mother, who for years had been taking part in the sport, took him to the shooting range for the first time. In 1990 he took part in his first international competition, still as a junior, and won his first gold medal.
In 1996 he won a competition to become a member of the Fiamme Azzurre, the sporting section of the Penitentiary Police of which he is now a member.
In 2000 he took part in the Olympic Games in Sydney, where he won a bronze medal. That same year he was called to the Vatican for an audience with the Pope in the presence of Cardinal Sepe and was awarded the Gold Discus for morality by Cardinal Ruini at Castel Gandolfo. It was the national feast of the CSI, the Italian Sports Centre. On 3 October 2000 he was conferred the Knight of the Order of Merit of the Italian Republic by the President of the Republic. Since 2000 he has also been a Knight Hospitaller for Malta, Prussia and Jerusalem.
In 2004 at the Olympics in Athens, he came second, bringing home the silver medal. In September of the same year, he was awarded the Official Order in Merit of the Italian Republic by the President of the Republic.
In 2008 he brought home another silver medal from the Olympics in Beijing, after which he was once again awarded the Commander of the Order in Merit of the Italian Republic upon initiative of the President of the Republic.
During his career he has won 4 golds, 2 silvers and 1 bronze medal in World Championships, 7 golds, 4 silvers and 2 bronze medals in World Cup finals and 10 golds, 1 silver and 4 bronze medals in the World Cup.
Recently he started a solidarity group called "Team Shooting J.P." for the needy and an international shooting school in Vercelli. He has been responsible for its renovation.
From the Italian National Olympic Committee he received a Bronze Medal, a Silver Medal and a Gold Medal for Athletic Valour as well as the Gold Collar for Sporting Merit.
In March 2014 the national arm of the Italian National Olympic Committee awarded Giovanni Pellielo an Honorary Diploma for Sporting Merit.  This accolade, which is awarded to athletes who have already received the Gold Collar for Sporting Merit, was conferred to Johnny following his fourth World Championship title in 2013.
Johnny is in a relationship. Giovanni Pellielo won Silver medal at Rio 2016 Olympic Games.

What Does she bring on shooting Range?

The Shotgun

The DT11 is Beretta’s top-of-the-line competition shotgun, used by the world’s absolute best clay shooters. It is built around a vault-tough cross-bolt action, a whole 3mm wider than its predecessor’s (the DT10) and therefore stronger and even more durable. DT11 Trident Beretta. Giovanni Pellielo shots with Dt11 Beretta.

Which is your favourite shotgun?
The shotgun that I prefer is obviously the one that I am currently using, the Beretta DT11.

Why do you prefer using this particular model?
From the first moment that I tried that shotgun, I immediately noticed that it had perfect technical balance, and that is why I prefer it to any other Beretta model that I have used in the past.

Who is your favourite shooter?
I don't have a particular favourite. In my opinion all those who have made history in shooting are my potential "favourite shooters", because there is something to learn from each one of them.

Who inspired to to start shooting?
My mother taught me to throw myself at the world of shooting, because she  was a shooter and hunter from the time she was 17 years old. Today she is 75 and she hasn't stopped yet.

What is you best story related to shooting?
I always enjoyed sport but being asthmatic meant that I couldn't always take part in it.  The only sport that I was able to take part in even when I wasn't feeling too well was shooting. I can say that this sport was like an anchor for me.

Which is your favourite shooting range?
My favourite shooting range is the one in Vercelli, where I currently train. I prefer it to all the ones I have seen in Italy and around the world because I feel at home there and I can be me.

How old were you when you first held a shotgun?
The first time I held a shotgun was one time I went hunting.  I was 7 years old.

What are your goals and plans for the future?
One of my goals for the future is to set the record for the longest standing period at the highest levels of the sport. Thereafter I want to continue serving this sport and my country.

What advice can you give those who are inspired by you?
The advice that I would like to give anyone who wants to start taking part in this sport is always listen to those who know more than you. This will save you from making meaningless mistakes. Learn from those who have already been through certain experiences.
