3032 Tomcat

I am a small but quick guy. This controllable Tomcat can place a tight group of three rounds at 20 feet in about 2 seconds so I feel real protected with it. It's great with a belt clip holster and doesn't bulge out as a pocket pistol. Bravo Beretta! I really love the pop up barrel giving me an easy extra round.

Fractured Frame

The frame cracked on my Tomcat. The frame has a design flaw on the right rail, it's too thin and fractures right above the trigger. They know about the design flaw because they issued a muzzle velocity warning for the ammo, requiring it to have less than 130 ft. lbs. They issued this warning about seven years after mine was sold. They redesigned the slide in later years making it heavier to reduce the speed/pressure but the new ones still crack too, you can Google that. I've never had a frame fracture on any other firearm I own. There is nothing wrong with the aluminum alloy material they use, it's just too thin. You take a big risk depending on this pistol.

Disappointed

First time to the range. Using Remington FMJ standard velocity ammo. Fired 30 rounds. Each magazine shot had at least one failure to feed. Last round the slide jammed to the rear, unable too free. Sending back to Beretta. Horrible customer service. They advised expect this new broken gun back in 12 weeks. Last Beretta product for me, too many other good products in the store.

Interesting design, but still faulty in my opinion.

I like the design more or less, but it still has the problem of a very weak design. The new designs did not fix the frame crack issue. Mine cracked after less than 300 rounds. Supposedly you can only use low power ammunition, which makes it a severely limited handgun. Given that it's chambered in weak caliber, and you need to use weak stuff, and even then, have to keep the round count low, I would not recommend this. The lack of an extractor also makes ejection erratic. The recoil impulse is nastier than it should be for a 32, and a little bridge in the frame cracks for many folks; it seems like a built-in weakness. Perhaps mine was a dud, but many have had the same problem so I wouldn't trust this model again. If it had a titanium or other stronger material for the frame, it could be a good little pistol. Perhaps the weak part in the frame could be made of a steel insert? I do like the tip up barrel, it looks nice, and it has a nice double to single action feature.

Made of pot metal

$600 for aluminum frame and poor trigger assembly. Watch the youtube videos of their pot metal trigger breaking before you buy. previously there were tons of aluminum frame breaking too. Beretta, if you are listening, put a threaded barrel on Inox.

Tomcat 32 Auto Covert "Hush Puppy"

Finally, Beretta has done it! I purchased a 32 Auto INOX Tomcat back 2010 for my CCW. I have read some of the reviews about the frame cracking and restrictions regarding ammo especially +P. To my knowledge Beretta addressed this issue and beefed up the internal frame when they made the 3032 INOX Tomcat. I did a side by side frame comparison with a friend's older Tomcat. The INOX frame is thicker. I have never had a single problem with this model. The only issue I had was, that Beretta did not make a threaded barrel for it. Well, now they have taken it one step further, the Tomcat 3032 Covert is an amazing amagalmation of Beretta style, design, and craftsmanship that is long over due. During the Vietnam War Navy Seals used a 32 Auto S&W Model 39, fitted with a suppressor to deal with enemy guard dogs (and sentries); The Operators who used it affectionately refered to it as, "The Hush Puppy." A perfect addition to my collection. Thank You PB
